Smoke Alarms Alert Family to Decker Township House Fire; One Pet Lost, Cause Under Investigation

Several fire departments responded to a residential structure fire in Decker Township on Tuesday morning. Firefighters and Indiana State Police troopers arrived to find heavy smoke coming from second-story windows. Officials say all occupants had safely exited the home before crews arrived, after being alerted by working smoke alarms. The home sustained significant damage. Two family pets were removed from the residence by firefighters; one survived and one did not. The occupants were evaluated for injuries by Gibson EMS and Good Samaritan EMS. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Office of the Indiana State Fire Marshal. The family is receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
