The filing deadline to run for office is set for this Friday in the upcoming May primary. Locally in Daviess County, we have two people seeking the open seat vacated by Mike Myers, who did not seek re-election for Daviess County Council on the Republican ticket in District 3. Kip Kelley, the current Washington Parks Superintendent, will face off with Jacob Stephens. Former County Highway Superintendent Phil Cornelius is seeking the County Council Seat in District 2 currently held by Tony Duncheon. Duncheon has filed to replace Nathan Gabhart as County Commissioner for District 2, as he has chosen to not seek re-election. Matt Meredith is also again running to retain his County Council seat in District 4. Steve Sturgis is the lone GOP candidate vying to be the next Daviess County Sheriff. Shelly Chestnut and Bob Wilz have filed for the Madison Township Trustee.
At the state level, two Republicans have entered to run for State Rep in District 45. Bruce Borders will face off with Kellie Streeter. Amy Kippenbrock is looking to replace outgoing State Rep in District 63 Shane Lindauer, who did not seek re-election. Three GOP candidates are going to battle it out for the open State Senate seat in District 39, as Eric Bassler chose to not seek re-election. Those candidates are Kristi Risk, Jeff Ellington, and Tanner Bouchie. On the Democrat ticket, three people have tossed their names in for US Representative District 8, currently held by Republican Mark Messmer. They are Mary Allen, Mark Foradori, and Christopher Rector. Joseph Baughman has filed for the Democratic nod for State Senate District 39, Becky Mayfield for State Rep in District 45, and Adam Mann for State Rep District 63.
Once again, the deadline to file is NOON on Friday. If you are thinking about running for office and have any questions, please feel free to call the election office at 812-254-8679.
