Garage Fire Draws Crews Back to West Old U.S. 50 Twice in One Night

fire-2-2

Fire crews were called out to a second blaze Wednesday night just before 9 p.m. at a home along West Old U.S. Highway 50. A caller reported that a neighbor’s garage had caught fire and heard an explosion. Dispatch logs indicate flames quickly engulfed the garage, and a truck parked in front of it also caught fire. At the same time, a homeowner in the adjacent residence reported being unable to get out on her own. Firefighters were able to reach the home and safely assist the homeowner. Despite early reports of possible injuries, no injuries were ultimately reported. Utility crews were notified as burning lines were observed, and later in the evening the County Highway Department was called to salt the roadway after water used to extinguish the fire began freezing and creating slick conditions. Crews cleared the scene late in the evening but were called back shortly before midnight after the structure briefly reignited. Firefighters quickly brought the fire back under control. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
