Washington Man Arrested in Connection with Illinois Bank Robbery

Evansville Police have arrested a Washington man in connection with a bank robbery in Illinois. According to WFIE, detectives contacted Evansville Police on December 30 to assist with an investigation into a robbery at a Chase Bank in Edwardsville, Illinois. Police say a man wearing a disguise entered the bank around 2 p.m. and passed a note to a teller demanding money. The suspect reportedly left the bank with more than $4,000 in cash. In the early morning hours of December 31, Evansville officers located a vehicle matching the suspect description near East Virginia Street and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, identified as 51-year-old Robert Emil Neal of Washington, was taken into custody. Neal is currently being held in the Vanderburgh County Jail on a theft charge and also faces charges in Madison County, Illinois, including financial institution robbery, possession of a stolen license plate, and felony theft.
