Purdue Extension and the Daviess County Clerk’s Office will host a free public workshop on January 5 from 6:30–8 p.m. at the newly renovated Daviess County Courthouse to help residents learn what it takes to run for local office. The session will explain the election process, filing deadlines, and which county and state offices will be on the ballot in 2025 — part of what officials say will be a “big election year” with races ranging from judges and commissioners to township trustees and state legislators. Clerk Lauren Milton and Purdue Extension’s Cindy Barber will lead the program, joined by a panel featuring Washington Mayor Dave Rhodes, City Council member Marilyn McCullough, and representatives from both political parties. The event will also include information on campaign ethics and time for one-on-one questions. Filing for the May primary opens January 7 and closes February 6 at noon. Organizers say the workshop is open to anyone, whether they plan to run this year or are simply exploring future opportunities. For questions, residents can contact the Election Room at 812-254-8679 or Purdue Extension at 812-254-8668.
