Driver Hits Pole After Swerving to Avoid Dog on Memorial Avenue

accident-1-2

Emergency crews responded Wednesday evening to a single-vehicle crash on Memorial Avenue near 20th Century Chevy Drive in Washington. The accident was reported at 6:05 p.m., after the driver told dispatchers she swerved to avoid a dog in the roadway and struck a utility pole. Airbags deployed, and the driver reported stomach soreness but declined transport after being checked by EMS. Washington Fire Department and MED-8 arrived within minutes, and officers confirmed the pole was cracked. Line crews were already nearby and responded to assess the damage.  Police reported the vehicle sustained heavy front-end damage and required a rollback wrecker. Tri-County towed the vehicle from the scene. Memorial Avenue was temporarily closed while the Street Department worked on the damaged utility pole.
