The Vincennes Police Department is alerting the public to a potential scam after a resident on North 14th Street reported suspicious activity on Friday. According to police, a woman was seen placing an envelope in a mailbox, taking a photo of it, and leaving. The envelope had no identifying information and was empty. Similar envelopes and door hangers have been linked to a scam in which recipients are urged to call a number and provide personal or banking information. Police advise residents not to share personal or financial details with unknown callers. Anyone who receives such an envelope — or believes they may have provided information to the scam — is encouraged to contact the Vincennes Police Department at 812-882-1233.
