A single-engine plane that went missing late Saturday night was found crashed early Sunday morning near the Orange–Lawrence County line, with the pilot miraculously surviving. According to Indiana State Police, the Louisville Airport and FAA alerted authorities around 10 p.m. Saturday to a possible downed aircraft, a Lancair fixed-wing plane. Troopers from the Jasper and Bloomington districts, along with multiple county agencies, searched through rugged, wooded terrain for several hours. Around 4 a.m. Sunday, the wreckage was located in a dense area near Old Vincennes Road in Orange County. The pilot was found alive inside the plane, suffering non-life-threatening injuries. Due to the difficult terrain, rescuers had to carry the pilot out by stretcher. Officials credited the successful rescue to the coordinated efforts of multiple agencies, including troopers and emergency crews from Orange, Lawrence, and Martin counties. The FAA has been notified and will lead the investigation into the crash.
