Community Rallies After Lakeview Drive House Fire Displaces Baxter Family

fire-2-2

Firefighters responded Saturday morning to a house fire on Lakeview Drive. The call came in around 7:55 a.m., with reports of heavy smoke near the garage. Responders from Washington City Fire, Washington Township Volunteer Fire, police, and EMS worked for several hours to bring the situation under control. Officials said the blaze may have started near a grill and extended toward the attic. Vehicles were inside the garage at the time, but no injuries were reported. Utility crews were also called to shut off natural gas and address a water leak discovered during the response. The fire was contained by late morning, though crews remained on scene into the afternoon. The cause is still under investigation.

The Baxter family lost everything in a house fire Saturday morning, and the community is rallying to help. A red Ford pickup will be parked in front of the youth trailers at Upper Elementary (Northside), across from Marathon, this evening from 5:30 to 8 p.m. during practice, with a donation box available. Needed items include clothing for children and adults, household essentials, and scrubs. Specific clothing sizes have been requested for girls, boys, men, and women. Organizers say they are grateful for the community’s generosity and support during this difficult time.
