A Washington man was arrested late Friday night, August 29, after fleeing from a traffic stop and leading officers into a bean field. Indiana State Police say Trooper Hurley stopped Ian Stewart, 40, around 11:40 p.m. on SR 550 for running a red light. Stewart showed signs of impairment but refused to exit his vehicle for sobriety tests. When officers attempted to remove him, Stewart drove off, eventually leaving the highway and hiding in a bean field before surrendering. Police recovered two syringes containing a dark liquid and a fully loaded 9mm magazine from his vehicle, though no firearm was found. Stewart was booked into the Knox County Jail on multiple charges, including resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, possession of a syringe, and possession of a weapon by a serious violent felon. Toxicology results are pending, and the investigation is ongoing.
