Daviess County Commissioners Approve Contracts, Courthouse Tours Set for Sept. 16

The Daviess County Commissioners met Tuesday with Commissioners Nathan Gabhart and Michael Keith present. Commissioner Gabhart gave an update on the move-in and some tweaks needed at the courthouse. Gabhart reminded everyone of the ribbon cutting and public tours of the courthouse on September 16.

Gabhart also reported that the work and paving on old U.S. 50, west of Washington, is nearly complete and should be wrapped up soon. Gabhart also noted that work on the old 50/County Road 150 W intersection is scheduled for 2027 or 2028.

In other business, the Commissioners approved a contract between the Daviess County Tourism Commission and Placer AI to track visitors to Daviess County so the Tourism Bureau can effectively allocate advertisement funding. The Commissioners also approved a contract with Motorola Solutions for upgrades to the 911 system. The Commissioners also approved a request from Sheriff Gary Allison to use the Cumulative Capital Fund to pay for air conditioning and dehumidifier repairs at the jail. Other requests approved were from Judge Murrie to purchase JAVS AV equipment for the Superior Court, the purchase of a water softener for the Government Center, the extension of the lease for the property where the Community Corrections office is located, and the Commissioners voted to allow Community Corrections to apply for funds from the Purdue opioid settlement.

The commissioners also heard a report from Bryant Niehoff on the choice of USDF to be the real estate broker for WestGate property.

At the end of the meeting, the commissioner discussed potential methods that could be put in place to recoup funds spent on individuals going through the criminal justice system.

The next Commissioners meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. on September 9.
