As summer winds down, law enforcement in Knox, Daviess, and Dubois counties will be stepping up impaired driving enforcement from August 16 through August 30. Local agnecies are partnering with the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute as part of the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign, led by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Officers will be increasing patrols, and in places, sobriety checkpoints will also be in place. In 2024, nearly 14% of traffic fatalities in Indiana involved alcohol, and over 35% involved drug impairment. Officials are reminding drivers to plan ahead for a safe, sober ride, whether that means designating a driver, calling a taxi or rideshare, or arranging another way home. Authorities stress that if you see a suspected drunk driver, you should pull over safely and contact law enforcement.
