Helen Janice Sterns

Helen Janice (Dwyer) Sterns, 98, of Fort Wayne, formerly of Shoals, IN and North Ft Myers, FL, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at Lutheran Life Villages, Pine Valley, in Fort Wayne.
Born May 17, 1927, in Shoals, she was the daughter of Richard and Eva Johnson Dwyer.
She married Donald E. Sterns on July 27, 1946, and he preceded her in death on September 22, 1993.
Helen retired from NSWC Crane where she worked as a Computer Operator and supervisor.
She was a member of the Shoals Christian Church and loved her church. She spent many years attending and bringing up her children there. She was a very active member of the North Ft Myers Church where she was a member of the choir and a leader of their weekly dinners. She also loved her bible and spent many hours studying the Word.
Helen was a wonderful seamstress; made her children’s clothes, dance costumes, and prom/wedding dresses. Later in life, she became an artist in oils. She was a wonderful cook and her home was always open for family and friends. She hosted large family gatherings for many years.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, Suzanne Sims (Jerry) & Diane Drake (Terry), 4 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter, and 1 great-great-great granddaughter (6 generations); and her brother, Jack Dwyer.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; sisters Louise Abel and Virginia Craney.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at the Shoals Christian Church, Shoals, Indiana, with Matt Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service on Saturday at the Shoals Christian Church, Shoals.
