Shohei Ohtani homered for his 1,000th career hit and struck out a season-high eight in four innings on the mound, but the St. Louis Cardinals rallied late to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-3. Jordan Walker leads he way on offense going 3 for 5 with an RBI.
Reds 1 Cubs 6
Cubbies held the Reds to 4 hits while banging out 11. Cade Horton got the dub while the Reds Andrew Abbott took the L. Chicago got taters from Seiya Suzuki, Ian Happ and Dansby Swanson.
The big league is still seeking its first no-hitter of the 2025 season.
Cleveland Guardians starter Gavin Williams threw 8 1/3 no-hit innings against the Mets on Wednesday but Juan Soto spoiled the party with a home run to dead center field.
Jen Pawol is set to become the first woman to umpire in Major League Baseball when she works games this weekend between the Miami Marlins and Atlanta Braves working the bases in Saturday’s doubleheader and the plate on Sunday. MLB’s move comes 28 years after the gender barrier for game officials was broken in the NBA and 10 years after it ended in the NFL.
NFL Training Camps
Rams QB Matthew Stafford is expected to play Week 1 despite a reported aggravated back disc. The 37-year-old, who’s been “week-to-week” and out of training camp, received an epidural after visiting a back specialist.
The NFL announced Tuesday that it is selling the bulk of its media assets, including NFL Network and the linear rights to the RedZone Channel, to ESPN, in exchange for a 10% equity stake in the network. There’s been a big worry that ESPN would ruin the popular RedZone but the NFL will maintain the production of the program.

The PGA Tour playoffs start today with the St Jude Championship at TPC Southwind in Memphis. The top 70 – Rory McIlroy who’s sitting it out will vie for a total purse of $20 million with the winners share being $3.6 million. The top 50 after this week advance to the BMW Championship outside Baltimore next week. Television: Thursday-Friday, 2-6 p.m. (Golf Channel); Saturday, 1-3 p.m. (Golf Channel), 3-6 p.m. (NBC); Sunday, Noon to 2 p.m. (Golf Channel), 2-6 p.m. (NBC).
