More than 130 college students from across the country got a unique, hands-on look at life and work in Southern Indiana this summer, thanks to the 2025 WestGate Summer Intern Program. Sponsored by the National Security Technology Accelerator (NSTXL) in partnership with WestGate Academy, the program aimed to introduce students to career opportunities in the region’s growing defense and tech industries, while also showing off what it’s like to live here. Over the course of the summer, interns from more than 22 universities participated in professional development sessions and activities with major players like NSWC Crane, NSA Crane, and Crane Army Ammunition Activity. Topics ranged from national security missions and hypersonics to microelectronics and career development. The interns also had a chance to enjoy the area with activities like kayaking, a trip to Holiday World, bowling nights, and networking events. Organizers hope to bring the program back next summer with continued support from partners like NSWC Crane and the WestGate@Crane Technology Park.
