As the trade deadline looms today at 6:00 pm the  Cincinnati Reds are acquiring third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for reliever Taylor Rogers and prospect Sammy Stafura. The 28-year-old Hayes, who is signed through 2029, is hitting .236 with two home runs in 369 at-bats for Pittsburgh, where he has spent the entirety of his six-year career.
The Cubs have acquired pitcher Mike Soroka from the Nationals.  Soroka, 27, is 3-8 with a 4.87 ERA in 16 starts but the key with him is his expected stats are much better than his actual ones, starting with his ERA which is 3.32.
The New York Mets acquired two-time All-Star reliever Ryan Helsley from the St. Louis Cardinals for three minor leaguers, it was announced Wednesday. Though one of baseball’s top closers, Helsley was expected to serve as a setup man for Mets All-Star closer Edwin Diaz.
New York Yankees acquired outfielder Austin Slater from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for pitching prospect Gage Ziehl. Slater batted .236 over 51 appearances with Chicago this season, including 29 hits, 20 runs and 11 RBI.

The NBA will head to Europe for six regular-season games over the next three seasons, the league announced Wednesday.
Beginning in January, the Memphis Grizzlies and Orlando Magic will make a two-game road trip to Berlin, (Jan. 15) and London (Jan. 18) to play each other. Future games will be played in Manchester, England, and Paris during the 2026-27 regular-season, and then in Berlin and Paris in the 2027-28 season.
