Oversized Load Causes Utility Pole Damage, Power and Internet Outage Near Loogootee

A semi-truck hauling an oversized load brought down multiple utility poles along U.S. Highway 50 east of Loogootee Wednesday morning, leading to power outages and disrupted phone and internet service in the area. The incident was reported around 9 a.m. near the 11800 block of East U.S. 50. According to police, the driver of a Peterbilt semi, became stuck in a line and snagged overhead lines, damaging two poles, one belonging to RTC Communications and another to Daviess-Martin County REMC. Crews from both utility companies responded quickly to begin repairs. Deputies provided traffic control while workers replaced the damaged poles. REMC noted the outage also affected its office phone lines, which were temporarily routed to an after-hours call center. Repairs were expected to take several hours. No injuries were reported.
