Washington City Council Approves Local Contracts, Paving Funds, and Reminders for Final Summer Events

city-of-washington-2

Washington’s City Council met Monday evening and discussed contracts with several local organizations. The Council agreed to contracts for funding for Youth First, RSVP, Connections, the Soccer Federation, Senior Services, and the Little League. However, the Little League requested increased funding due to higher electric bills, and while the Council agreed with the request, final approval has to wait for a new contract. Other contracts were signed with the Daviess County Emergency Management and Daviess County Economic Development Corporation. Following the council meeting, the Board of Public Works and Safety approved all the proposed contracts with the exception of the Little League.

In regular business, the Council approved an ordinance appropriating funds received from the State’s Community Crossing Grant for street paving.

The Council also accepted requests for the continuance of tax abatement for Eagle Railcar, NASCO, Indiana Safety, True Real Estate, Simplified Development, and Indiana Municipal Power. The request from Alliance Barrier Films/ISOFlex was delayed due to a technicality on the application form. At the end of the meeting, Mayor Rhoads reminded everyone that today is the last Food Truck Tuesday at Eastside Park for this year.

The mayor also reminded everyone of the First Friday events at the Commons from 5 to 10 this Friday. And with the start of school, Sunday will be the last day the swimming pool will be open. At the Board of Works meeting, the Board approved a one-year contract with Ed Barnett for engineering and surveying services.
