Rich Hill, at 45 years old, has been called up by the Royals, making him Major League Baseball’s oldest active player. Hill, who debuted with the Cubs in 2005, also joins Edwin Jackson as only the second MLB player to have played for 14 teams throughout his career.
Edmundo Sosa drew a catcher’s interference call in the 10th inning to lift the Phillies to a 3-2 walk off win over the Red Sox. The first time in over 50 years this ended a game.
Shohei Ohtani is the third player ever to allow AND hit first-inning homers in the same game. Marshall Bridges did it for the Cardinals on June 28, 1959, and Randy Lerch did it for the Phillies on May 17, 1979.
WNBA
Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White informed reporters that Caitlin Clark’s return from a groin injury remains uncertain. The Fever star is unlikely to play when the team resumes its season tonight and is scheduled for further testing.
RACING
Indycar is back at it this weekend with the Grand Prix of Monterey. Defending champ Alex Palou leads the points standings followed by Pato O’Ward, Kyle Kirkwood, Scott Dixon and Christian Lundgaard.
F1 also racing this weekend at the Belgian Grand Prix. At the halfway point of the season McLaren Racing’s Oscar Piastri leads the way with the slimmest of margins over teammate Lando Norris. Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen is in 3rd followed by Mercedes’ George Russel and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.
NASCAR returns to the Brickyard this weekend along with defending champion Kyle Larson. Chase Elliott leads the cup standings followed by William Byron, Larson, Denny Hamlin and Tyler Reddick.
