
Washington Police arrested two men early Saturday morning following reports of gunfire near E. John St. and NE 6th St. around 4:20 a.m. Responding officers located a vehicle matching the suspect description and conducted a traffic stop, recovering two handguns. Inside the vehicle was 23-year-old Juan Manuel Lopez Jr. Further investigation revealed that a verbal altercation outside a local establishment escalated, with shots fired into the air and later into a residence on NE 6th St., where a physical fight had taken place. At the residence, officers encountered multiple people, including 27-year-old Eleazar Astello. A third handgun and approximately 30 grams of suspected cocaine were recovered at the scene. Both men were arrested on multiple charges, including Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon, Intimidation, and Pointing a Firearm. Astello also faces charges of Dealing and Possession of Cocaine. No injuries were reported. The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office and Indiana State Police assisted in the investigation.
