Vivian (Vicky) Ann Doyle, a beloved mother and devoted wife, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2025, at the age of 89. She was born on August 10, 1935 in Chicago, IL to Victor and Irene (Griffin) Larson. She had no siblings and often cited this as the reason behind her strong desire to have a large family.
Vicky’s family moved to Indianapolis where she graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1953. She attended Butler University, transferring after her freshman year to Purdue where she went on to earn a B.S. in Education. While there, she became a proud member of the Delta Gamma sorority.
Her early career saw her taking on diverse roles, from an airport agent for United Airlines at Midway Airport to a salesperson at Saks Fifth Avenue on Chicago’s Miracle Mile. Yet, her most treasured role was that of a devoted wife and mother, a role she fully embraced following her marriage to Joseph (Joe) Doyle on November 18, 1961.
Beginning in 1977, Vicky served as Director and Head Librarian of the Loogootee Public Library, a role that perfectly aligned with her lifelong love of books and reading. Over the course of her 22–year tenure, she brought about significant change including the introduction of Children’s Hour and audiobooks, the computerization of the library, and a remodel of the entire library including the installation of a wheelchair ramp, ensuring everyone in the community could enjoy its resources.
With her big, bright smile and friendly demeanor, she formed connections with others through her work at the library and in the community. She was an active member of St. John’s Catholic Church, Tri Kappa, Daughters of Isabella, and the Red Hat Society. Her love of shopping and the thrill of a good sale was evident in her classy and well put-together appearance.
Vicky will be tremendously missed by her expansive and loving family, including her daughter Kyle Kroehler (Jon), grandchildren Joshua, Anderson and Hannah; her son J.R. (Cathy), grandchildren Bailey, Noah and Elijah; her son Rex (Carolyn), grandchildren Tony (Ali), Bridget (Colin), Grant and Mark; great-grandchildren Blake, Riley and Maurice; her daughter Kelly Wong (Mel), grandchildren Anne and Ling; her son Jeff (Sally), grandchildren Lauren and Claire. Vicky is preceded in death by her loving husband, Joe Doyle and her parents Victor and Irene Larson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Very Rev. J Kenneth Walker at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday June 18, 2025 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Loogootee, Indiana. Visitation will be held on the same day from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial in St. John’s Cemetery will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National MS Society (nationalmssociety.org), honoring Vicky’s nearly 50-year long battle with multiple sclerosis.
Blake Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Vivian Ann Doyle.
