Frederick Ray Eichmiller

Frederick Ray Eichmiller, 88, of Loogootee, Indiana passed away on Monday June 9, 2025 at Sycamore Care Strategies in Loogootee, Indiana.

He was born on November 5, 1936 in Loogootee, Indiana to Jacob and Augusta (Meyer) Eichmiller.

Fred dedicated over 20 years of honorable service to his country as an illustrator in the United States Air Force. He was stationed in Norway, England, and several places throughout the U.S.  Among his many contributions, Fred worked on the distinguished Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird program, a source of great pride throughout his life.

Fred was a member of the American Legion Post #120 continuing his commitment to supporting fellow veterans and his community. After his retirement from the Air Force, Fred continued working at Midwest Printing and eventually retiring from Kimball Upholstery.

He had a love for gardening, growing flowers and vegetables. Fred was a talented painter. He was known for his infectious laugh – one that could fill the room and lift the spirits of everyone around him. Fred found joy in the simple pleasures: sharing a good meal, telling stories, and spending meaningful time with his beloved family.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Pauletta Eichmiller, his parents, Jacob and Augusta (Meyer) Eichmiller, his son, James Eichmiller, his siblings, Paul Eichmiller, Hartwig Eichmiller, Victor Eichmiller, Nora Gayer, Marie Burger, Henry Eichmiller, and Louis Eichmiller.

Fred is survived by his children, Sandra (Kelly) LaMar, Troy (Jessica) Pearson, Travis Pearson, daughter- in – law, Jean Eichmiller, Kurt Eichmiller, Tara (Weldon) McPherson, grandchildren, Tracie (TJ) McAtee, Wade (Jessenia) LaMar, Breigh LaMar, Logan Pearson, Kody Pearson, Raisa Eichmiller, Kayla Eichmiller, Abigail Eichmiller, Ryan Mize, Talisha Mize, Jalen (Macey) Pearson, Kelsey (Joey) Hager, Peyton (James) Wade, Jordan Clark, Jamie Cronin, Justin Cronin, 20 great – grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday June 17, 2025 at Christ Lutheran Church in Haysville, Indiana. Burial and military rites will follow at Haysville Community Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Monday June 16, 2025 from 3:00 P.M until 7:00 P.M at Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee, Indiana and again on Tuesday morning from 10:00 A.M until the time of service at 11:00 A.M at Christ Lutheran Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Christ Lutheran Church in memory of Fred.
