Two-Vehicle Crash Leaves One Critically Injured; Driver Charged with OWI

A serious crash at the intersection of US 50 and Troy Road on Saturday, May 31, left one man critically injured and another facing charges of operating while intoxicated. The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office reports the crash occurred around 4:38 p.m. when a 1974 Jeep Renegade, traveling north on Troy Road, failed to yield while crossing US 50 and entered the path of a westbound 2017 Jeep Cherokee. The impact ejected a passenger from the Jeep Renegade, identified as 65-year-old Thomas Wirts of Washington. He was first taken to Daviess Community Hospital, then transferred to a hospital in Evansville, where he remains in critical condition. The Renegade’s driver, 60-year-old David Love of Francisco, was treated for minor injuries and later arrested after submitting a chemical test showing a blood alcohol content of 0.19. He was booked into the Daviess County Security Center on a charge of OWI causing serious bodily injury. The driver of the Jeep Cherokee, 39-year-old Ronelle Linneweber of Vincennes, sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital by private vehicle. The Indiana State Police are assisting with crash reconstruction. Emergency response also included the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department, Daviess County Ambulance Service, and local wrecker services.
