city-of-washington-2

With Monday being Memorial Day, Washington’s City Council held its final May meeting Tuesday evening, with no resolutions or proposed ordinances on the agenda. Mayor David Rhoads presented the City Council with a draft of an agreement with Baker-Tilly for preliminary work on the proposed east side sewage system upgrades and proposed wastewater treatment plant. The current sewage system is at capacity, and the city needs to add additional facilities.

Police Chief Derrick Devine also told the council that three of the city’s police officers have applied for positions with the state police, citing salary considerations.

Following the council meeting, the Board of Public Works and Safety met and approved promotions in the electric department for Cameron Cosby and Jonathan Land. The board also approved a request from Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church to hold a Eucharistic Procession the evening of Saturday, June 21st. The procession will use Hefron Street to SR 57 to Main Street (using sidewalks), then to the Commons and the Gazebo before returning to the church. The exact route is still uncertain in the Main Street area. The board also approved the contract with Baker-Tilley for preliminary work on the sewer project.
