Daviess County full-time employees look to get a 3% raise next year. Council President Marilyn McCullough presented the recommendation of the county’s wage committee to council members at Wednesday’s regular May meeting. McCullough said the committee had looked at cost-of-living numbers, had discussions with department heads, and had several conversations. McCullough also said the committee took into account the unknown effect of SB-1 on the county’s funding next year. The council accepted the committee’s recommendation.

In other business, the council approved additional appropriations for additional insurance on new equipment and expert fees for mental health examinations for defendants appearing in Superior Court. The council also approved using opioid settlement funds to pay for upgrades at the Child Service Office and for a kiosk for the Probation Office. The only stipulation added to the Probation Office request was that they investigate using other less costly hardware to service the kiosk. The council tabled suggestions from the county commissioners about amendments to the county’s innkeeper tax ordinance to allow members time to get more information.
