Sharing their meeting room with the Circuit Court forced the County Commissioners to compress Monday’s already short agenda to make way for a jury trial.

With the space-sharing in mind, Commissioners President Nathan Gabhart gave an update on the courthouse renovation. Gabhart said the project is on schedule with a June 2nd completion date. The commissioners then heard an update on the WestGate Tech Park from Kent Parisian. Parisian reported on scheduled groundbreakings for new facilities and the continued salary employment growth at the Tech Park. The commissioners also heard a report from the Uplands Regional Land Bank. Bobby Abel reviewed the Land Bank’s program to acquire vacant, abandoned, and dilapidated properties and return them to use. Abel said the Land Bank had acquired two Daviess County properties and was looking at a third. One of the properties has been renovated and is in the sale process.

In other business, the commissioners approved a contract presented by County Clerk Milton. The contract to collect delinquent payments is with Paycourt Collections. The commissioners also approved a request from Shelby Stanley to set up a kiosk as a check-in portal for the Probation Department. Expenses would be paid from Opioid Settlement Funds. Laura Petty and Pam Padgett also appeared and asked to use some of the Opioid Settlement Fund to update the CASA reception area for children in need of CASA services. The commissioners approved the request.

The commissioners also heard the annual credit card report from County Auditor Jennifer Walsh, approved an amendment to the Inn Keepers Tax Ordinance, and discussed potential changes to the Solar Field Ordinance being considered by the Advisory Plan Commission.
