On the morning of May 5, the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call reporting a school bus stuck in the median at the intersection of US 50 and County Road 300W in Washington. Deputies discovered the 2007 yellow Freightliner bus being used for a Washington Catholic Schools field trip, had veered into the median and become stuck in the mud. The driver, 55-year-old Steven W. Truelove of Washington, was transported to Daviess Community Hospital for a drug and alcohol screening. Authorities report his blood alcohol content measured 0.221—nearly three times the legal limit. All 38 children and 4 adults aboard the bus were safely evacuated with no reported injuries. Truelove was arrested and booked into the Daviess County Security Center on a charge of Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated (OVWI) Endangering. He is currently being held without bond. The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Washington City Police Department and Craney’s Body Shop.
