
Ruth Ilene Strange, aged 99, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family.
Born on April 5, 1926 in Loogootee, Indiana, she was the beloved daughter of Asa and Mary Bernadette. Ruth married Donald J. Strange on September 30, 1944. She was a faithful Christian who loved the older hymns. Church in the Wildwood, Amazing Grace, and How beautiful Heaven Must Be were her favorites. She liked to travel, and relished the three times she visited Hawaii. Ruth enjoyed woodworking, building such things as tables, doghouses, fences. Having loved flowers, she enjoyed planting trees, and a variety of flowers, such as roses, hyacinths and hollyhocks. Ruth routinely visited her family member’s graves placing flowers in remembrance of them. Family was very important to her. She loved to attend weddings, reunions and any events she could visit with her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, 5 sons: Kenneth, Earl, and Mike, Ernie, Joseph Allen Strange; 4 sisters: Mary, Dorothy, Annie, and Margaret; 3 brothers: Harry, Jim, and Charlie.
Ruth is lovingly remembered by her sons: Roger Strange of Paoli, Patrick Strange of Bloomington; her daughters: Evelyn Matlock of Florida, Linda Hudoff of Bloomington, Ann Strange of Henryville, and Pam Hurt of Bloomington; 19 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers: Bill Ellis and John Raymond Ellis, both of Loogootee.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee, Indiana with Pastor Jeff Williams officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Bramble.
Visitation will be held from 10 am to 11 am also on Friday, May 2, 2025 at the funeral home.
