Congratulations to Washington Hatchet standout Colton Stowers who announced yesterday that he will be continuing his basketball career at Wabash College.  In Colton’s senior season he averaged 19.3 points and 7.4 rebounds along with 4 assists per game.  He shot a 51% clip from the field and a school record 90% from the free throw line.  Colton is 11th in school history with 1,132 career points.
One season ends and the future begins for the Indiana Hoosiers Men’s basketball team. Indiana made it official late yesterday and announced the hiring of Darian DeVries who had spend one year at West Virginia.
After going 9-23 in 2023-24 West Virginia hired DeVries, who led Drake to three NCAA tournaments in four years.
With a completely new starting lineup — led by transfers Javon Small and Tucker DeVries, the coach’s son — DeVries completely turned around WVU and led it to a 19-13 record. It was considered by many to be the most shocking snub of the NCAA tournament, with West Virginia’s governor angry enough to threaten legal action against the NCAA.
DeVries will be replacing a coach in Woodson whose hire some questioned at the time and had everyone was questioning by the end. Woodson stepped down at the end of the regular season with an 82-53 career record and two straight missed NCAA tournaments.

The Dodgers and Cubs got the season started yesterday in Tokyo (sort of, both will play one more game today and then return to finish spring training). 42,000 fans sold out the Tokyo Dome to see the Dodgers begin their defense of their world title. After being no-hit through the first four frames, the Dodgers recovered to claim a 4-1 victory
