Knox County Approves Funds to Demolish Abandoned Structure in Wheatland

Wheatland Town Board President Brett Dawson approached Knox County Commissioners with a plea for $8,000 to demolish an abandoned structure. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to remove derelict homes and clean up properties in the county. The county has an annual allocation of $100,000 for the Unsafe Building Board to tear down buildings. Each of the seven incorporated towns receives $8,000 from this fund per year. If any town doesn’t utilize their share by July or has no plans to spend it, the remaining money is redistributed to another town. This year, all of the $100,000 has already been allocated to or spent in Knox County. Despite a split decision, the request was approved by a 2-1 vote.
