Washington Community Schools Announces Free Summer Meal Program for Children Under 18

summer-meals

Free breakfast and lunch meals will be provided by Washington Community Schools Sodexo Food Service for children under 18 in Washington during the summer. Due to new USDA regulations, a small amount of paperwork will be required during pick-up, resulting in longer wait times.
There are two options for receiving meals:
Congregate: Students eat at school, which is suitable for those participating in daycare, summer school, or summer camps (including YMCA, Kinder Camp, WC Cardinal Care, and Infinite Sports).
Non-congregate: Families can pick up five days’ worth of packaged breakfast and lunch meals to take home.
According to USDA rules, a child cannot participate in both programs simultaneously if they are already receiving meals at their summer camp or daycare. Starting from June 5 to July 28, non-congregate meals will be available for pick-up at the high school (Gate 4) between 4:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. every Tuesday. Each child in your home will receive breakfast, lunch, and milk for five days. Rosters from each camp or daycare will be used to ensure families do not receive meals from multiple sites. If you wish to opt out of meals at a camp or daycare, please contact the camp director or SFSP program director at elips@wcs.k12.in.us. Once you opt out, you may participate in the meal pick-up on Tuesdays.
