Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch and the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs announced yesterday that 14 organizations will be designated as Indiana Main Street programs. The newly formed Discover Downtown Washington group was among those receiving the certification. The program allows communities to celebrate what makes them unique and showcase their downtown districts. To be designated and identified as an Indiana Main Street Program group, groups must meet rigorous performance standards. The newly formed Discover Downtown Washington has four pillars, including an executive board to oversee future events and promotions in downtown Washington. One of the first exciting things offered and coming soon will be a downtown Washington Facade Improvement Grant that will be available for downtown merchants and buildings. More details are to come on that, and the group is planning a spring festival on Main Street on May 6th.
