Teacher Predator Faces 50 Year Max in Evansville

Between Indiana and Kentucky is the Ohio River. A first-year Evansville high school teacher has been charged with crossing that river to have sex with a minor. Cody McCormick was indicted this week by a federal grand jury in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Crossing a state line makes it a federal case. McCormick was charged with one count of interstate travel to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor.
He was also charged with attempted enticement of a minor and attempted transfer of obscene material to a minor.
“We were informed by federal authorities that first year teacher Cody McCormick was arrested for an out of state charge of solicitation. Subsequently, trustees terminated his employment at the November 7th meeting,” read a statement from Evansville schools.
Authorities with the U.S. Attorney’s office, the Kentucky Attorney General’s office and Kentucky State Police said McCormick, 27, planned to travel from Evansville to Owensboro to have sex with someone he believed to be a minor. He was arrested as part of a joint investigation between the feds and Kentucky authorities, looking to catch predators in the Owensboro area.
McCormick faces a maximum of 50 years in federal prison and a minimum of ten years if he’s convicted.
