$ 2,000 dollar raises are not on the table for members of the Vincennes City Council. This comes after the council met on Monday night for the first reading of the 2023 budget ordinance. One of the items city leaders talked about putting into the budget is a $2,000 raise for those who serve on the council. Council member Dan Ravellette was in favor of the raise, saying this would be more money for his family to put back into the community through spending. However, several other council members opposed it, including City Council President Tim Salters. He says he doesn’t believe council members should be voting for their own raises. Other council members say they’re not opposed to a raise but disagree with the amount proposed. They believe it should be in line with other city employees. The council voted against giving themselves the raise in a 6 to 1 vote, with Ravellette the one assent. They’ll hold the 2nd and 3rd readings of the budget ordinance at their next meeting.
