Our Community Foundation has received accreditation with the nation’s highest standard for philanthropic excellence. National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations® establish legal, ethical, effective practices for community foundations everywhere.

“Meeting the National Standards benchmarks is a rigorous, comprehensive process,” said Randy Royster, board member of the Council on Foundations. “This accreditation is a significant accomplishment that indicates Our Community Foundation demonstrates a commitment to transparency, quality, integrity and accountability as it carries out its mission.”

“This is a significant accomplishment,” said Joe Singleton, President of the Board of Directors. “When people trust Our Community Foundation with a charitable bequest or to establish a fund, they do it knowing that we have met rigorous standards for donor services, investment management, grantmaking and administration.”

“The National Standards accreditation says this house is in order,” said Singleton. “It is excellent validation of the work we do on behalf of our donors and Daviess County.”

The process of earning National Standards accreditation is arduous. The program requires community foundations to document policies for donor services, investments, grantmaking and administration. Our Community Foundation’s documentation was reviewed by a community foundation expert from a panel appointed by the Community Foundations National Standards Board, a supporting organization of the Council on Foundations in Washington, D.C.

National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations® is the first program of its kind for charitable foundations in the United States. For more information on the National Standards Board, visit its website at www.cfstandards.org.

Our Community Foundation was organized last year as part of an agreement with the Community Foundation Alliance to form a standalone community foundation to serve Daviess County. Since 1993, the community foundation serving Daviess County has been part of the 9-county Community Foundation Alliance, located in Evansville. The accreditation is the final step of the Separation Process before funds may be transferred.
