Area groups against the Mid-States Corridor hosted a meeting Tuesday night in Loogootee.

Over 200 people were in attendance to address their opinions and thoughts on the proposed project.

The Indiana Department of Transportation recently announced the preferred route for the project which would bypass Huntingburg and Jasper and run up into northern Daviess County near Crane.

Tuesday’s meeting was hosted by Loogootee Mayor Noel Harty, The Coalition Against the Mid State’s Corridor, the Sierra Club Hoosier Chapter, the Indiana Forest Alliance, and Hoosier Environmental Council.

Mayor Noel Harty says his number one concern is the impact the highway would have on local agriculture…

Mayor Harty noted his second concern is the amount of houses the highway would take out during construction…

Another meeting on the highway is scheduled later this month.

The meeting will be held on May 25th at 6:00 pm at the Martin County Community Building.

State Lawmakers Mark Messmer, Eric Bassler and Shane Lindaur are scheduled to be in attendance.
