Authorities Out Looking for Distracted Drivers Today

Several area police and sheriff’s departments will be stepping up patrols today as part of a nationwide enforcement campaign.
Authorities will be out conducting high visibility patrols looking for distracted drivers.
This is the second year for the Connect to Disconnect campaign which takes place during Distracted Driving Awareness Month.
Distracted driving is anything that takes away your focus from driving and can include eating, listening to loud music, using a cell phone, or video blogging.
Authorities say video blogging or “vlogging” is becoming more of an issue these days.
They say there is a time and a place for everything, and that driving is not the time to take selfies or video.
In 2020, over 3,000 people were killed in Indiana due to distracted driving according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
As part of the Connect to Disconnect campaign, motorists are asked to do their part by putting down the cell phone and driving distraction-free.
