Good Samaritan was recently selected to participate in TAKEheart.
TAKEheart is a national initiative funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality to increase use of cardiac rehabilitation referrals, enrollment, and retention.
As a TAKEheart partner hospital, hospital staff will receive training, coaching and technical support, in addition to shared learning from cardiac rehabilitation experts and peers.
Approximately one million Americans have a coronary event or surgery each year, but currently, only 1-in-5 are referred to cardiac rehab. Among Medicare-eligible heart attack patients, only 6.5% complete the recommended rehabilitation sessions.
The TAKEheart initiative began this week during Cardiac Rehabilitation Week. The week-long observance coincides with both Valentine’s Day and American Heart Month to draw greater national attention to heart health. This year’s theme is, “Healing Hearts Together,” and honors the patients, families, and healthcare professionals who are dedicated to giving patients a new start.
