
The Washington Lady Hatchets moved on to the semi-finals in the 3A Girls Sectional last night topping Linton 54-28. Alaina Thorne had 16 points, Kencia Lavasseur had 13, and Chloe Browning had 12 points to pace the Hatchets. Next up for Washington will be Pike Central Friday night. In game one, Vincennes defeated Princeton 46-31. The Lady Alices will go against Sullivan in game one Friday night.
In the Class A Sectional at North Daviess, Barr Reeve opened with a 48-38 win over Shoals. The Lady Vikings will now face Washington Catholic on Friday in the semi finals at North Daviess. Vincennes Rivet moved on in game two defeating Orleans 50-17. The Lady Patriots will now square off with North Daviess in game two Friday night.
It was a couple of very close games in the 2A sectional at North Knox yesterday. The host North Knox Lady Warriors escaped with a narrow 38-36 win over Mitchell. While South Knox eliminated Eastern Greene 40-37. Friday at North Knox, Paoli will play North Knox, while Loogootee will meet South Knox.
Now it’s official. Tom Brady is calling it a career. The 44-year-old announced on social media Monday that he’s retiring from the NFL. Brady is arguably the greatest quarterback to ever play the game despite being the 199th overall draft pick in the year 2000. He appeared in 10 Super Bowls, winning seven of them, one of which was last year as a 43-year-old. The last touchdown pass of his career was a 55-yard strike to Mike Evans in a playoff loss to the Rams on January 23rd.
Today’s the day. The Washington Football Team will reveal its new team name. Their previous mascot, “the Redskins” faced criticism for years for being racist. Finally the team decided to drop the name and played this season just as “The Washington Football Team” until they came up with a new one. Today we’ll find out that new name. Most people believe it will be “The Commanders” due to some internet sleuthing and a belief that Joe Theismann leaked the name in a recent radio interview.
Purdue travels on the road to face Minnesota Wednesday night in Minneapolis. The Boilermakers have won three in a row and are 18-3. Purdue moved up two spots to number four in the AP Poll Monday. Sophomore standout Jaden Ivey is expected to return to the starting lineup. He came off the bench in both wins last week after being limited in practice due to a hip injury.
Butler looks to keep its momentum going when the Bulldogs take on 21st-ranked Xavier Wednesday night in Cincinnati. The Dawgs have won two straight to get back above .500 at 11-10. Butler is looking for its first win over a ranked opponent this season.
Notre Dame will battle Miami Wednesday night on the road in an ACC showdown. The Fighting Irish are third in the conference, while the Hurricanes are tied atop the league standings. The Irish are coming off their worst offensive performance of the season in a loss Monday at home to ninth-ranked Duke.
The Indiana Pacers’ three-game homestand continues Wednesday night against the Orlando Magic. The Blue and Gold beat the Clippers at Gainbridge Fieldhouse Monday night behind a career-night from rookie Isaiah Jackson. The forward out of Kentucky had 26 points and 10 rebounds, and fellow rookies Duane Washington Jr. and Terry Taylor added 16 and 15 points, respectively. The Magic are coming off a loss in Chicago Tuesday night. Orlando is an NBA-worst 11-41, while Indiana is 19-33, and the Blue and Gold have won six straight over the Magic. The first of three matchups between the Magic and Pacers on the season tips off at 7 p.m. Eastern in Indianapolis.
