The man known as Big Papi has been elected to Baseball’s Hall of Fame, but his selection is a little controversial. David Ortiz says he’s humbled by his election. He’s in, but Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens aren’t because they were believed to have used performance enhancing drugs. Ortiz tested positive in 2003, but that test was supposed to be anonymous. Ortiz will be inducted in July. Bonds and Clemens now fall off the ballot.
Sean Payton’s time in New Orleans is done. He coached there for 16 years, but was suspended in 2012 for so-called “bounty-gate.” Payton is the winningest coach in Saints history and helped lead the franchise to its first Super Bowl victory in 2009. He didn’t rule out coaching again in the future. There’s been rumors he’ll step into a broadcasting role. Payton says he hasn’t had conversations with any TV networks but acknowledged it’s something he’d enjoy doing.
Indiana University will be facing off against Penn State tonight at Assembly Hall. The Hoosiers fell short to the Nittany Lions in their last meeting 58-61. Indiana is hoping to improve their scoring over the last game where only Trayce Jackson-Davis was able to score in the double digits. Despite having a two game winning streak, including the 68-65 upset victory over Purdue, the Hoosiers momentum was brought to a halt as the Michigan Wolverines defeated them on Sunday, 80-62. Penn State is currently on a two game losing streak and only 3-5 against teams in the Big Ten. Tonight’s tip off is at 8:30.
Notre Dame is back at home to face North Carolina, while Butler will look to snap a four-game losing streak tonight at home against Creighton.
