The Washington Junior High boys basketball team improved to 13-2 on the season with a 64-21 win over Tell City in the opening round of the PAC Conference tournament. Scoring for the Hatchets were Cordell Turner 17, Brody Isza 15 , Harrison Merold 9, Cooper Wright 8, Alton Ostby 7 Benjamin Merold 3, Trey James 3 and Zachary Veale 2. The Hatchet 8th Grade Boys and Girls will both play this Thursday at Hatchet House.
Washington 8th grade girls hosted the opening round of the PAC 8th grade tourney at the Hatchet House Monday night. Washington 8th grade Lady Hatchets jumped out to 16-0 lead after one quarter vs Tell City and never looked back with a stellar performance winning 39-12 at home in front of a good crowd. Washington 8th grade girls move on to the semi-final round on Thursday of the PAC 8th grade girls tourney.
In the PAC Conference Wrestling meet over the weekend, three Hatchet Wrestlers placed in competition. Brady Byrd-3rd place 106 lbs, Brody Wilson-4th place 113 lbs. Omar Mora- 4th place 170 lbs. Congratulations
Purdue fell two spots to number six in the college basketball Associated Press poll released Monday. The Boilermakers went 2-1 last week, with wins over Illinois and Northwestern and a loss at Indiana. Purdue is 16-3 overall and 5-3 in the Big Ten. The Boilermakers play at Iowa Thursday night before a Sunday afternoon home showdown against 16th-ranked Ohio State. Auburn ascended to the number one spot in the poll for the first time ever. The Tigers were followed by Gonzaga, Arizona, Baylor and Kansas. On the women’s side, Indiana stayed at number six. The Hoosiers did not play a game last week due a COVID-19 pause.
The Chicago Bears announced the team interviewed Colts director of college scouting Morocco Brown for the general manager position Monday. Brown previously worked with Colts GM Chris Ballard in Chicago from 2001 to 2007 as the Bears’ assistant director of pro personnel. Fellow Colts assistant GM Ed Dodds withdrew his name from the Bears’ search for a general manager last week. The Bears previously interviewed Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus for Chicago’s head coach opening. Eberflus is expected to return for a second interview Wednesday, according to a report from Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network. Former Colts and Lions head man Jim Caldwell is also a candidate to take over for Matt Nagy, who was fired earlier this month.
The New Orleans Pelicans defeated the Indiana Pacers 117-113 Monday night in The Big Easy. Devonte’ Graham led all scorers with 25 points and Josh Hart overcame a sprained ankle to score 22 points. Indiana hit 19 3-pointers, but the Pelicans doubled up the short handed Pacers in the paint 64-32. All-Star forward Domantas Sabonis missed his third straight game with a sprained ankle. Point guard Malcolm Brogdon was out as he rehabs a sore right Achilles, and center Myles Turner was once again sidelined with a foot injury. Duane Washington Jr. made a career-best seven 3-pointers and scored a team-high 21 points. The Pacers wrap up the five-game road trip 3-2, and are 17-31 overall. The Blue and Gold return home to host Gordon Hayward and the Charlotte Hornets Wednesday night.
