The Indiana National Guard has arrived at Good Samaritan Hospital to help the overwhelmed nurses and staff.
The guard, in coordination with the ISDH, will be supporting Good Samaritan as part of their Hospital Recovery Support Teams for the next two weeks.
The team of six will provide 40 work hours per soldier, per week, with the possibility of extended hours.
The team includes two combat medic specialists and four general support personnel.
The medics will be providing support in the collection of vital signs, assisting nurses in bedside duties, starting IV’s, and other clinical responsibilities.
The non-medically trained staff will be assisting in the cleaning of patient rooms, delivering meals to patients, assisting unit clerks, stocking supplies, and helping with other general tasks.
The Indiana National Guard soldiers have undergone necessary training and are fully vaccinated to provide safe patient care.
The soldiers will be supporting staff in the Emergency Department, Medical Surgical Unit, Intensive Care Unit, and other services within Good Samaritan.
The soldiers will remain at the hospital for the next two weeks at which time health officials say they will reevaluate the situation.
