Washington’s City Council met last night. The Council heard a request asking the city to vacate an abandoned utility easement in the Sundale Park Subdivision. The subdivision was never developed, but the easement is still in the records. The Council asked City Attorney Tim Dant to prepare an ordinance vacating the easement.
The Council also heard an amended proposal to rezone property for a proposed housing development on Bussard Road. The amended proposal requires an environmental buffer zone on the north edge of the property and would limit the number of condominiums in the area to twenty units, with the remainder of the subdivision being individual residences. The ordinance will be up for final approval at the next council meeting.
In addition, the Council approved an ordinance that reimbursed the County for unused sick and vacation days for the four dispatchers who were transferred in the consolidation of the Emergency Dispatch Center.
The Washington Board of Public Works and Safety met following the Council meeting and awarded bids to demolish derelict structures on property at 103 NW 8th Street and 812 Maxwell Avenue. Don Gress Construction submitted the low bid for both properties coming in at $2,900 for the 8th Street property and $7,500 for the Maxwell Street property. Building Commissioner Jonathan Casper told the Council that the other derelict buildings are on future condemn lists.
