Attorney General Todd Rokita Files Lawsuit Against Google

Attorney General Todd Rokita has filed a lawsuit against Google.
The lawsuit, which was filed Monday, aims to penalize Google for violations of the Indiana Deceptive Consumer Sales Act and to ensure consumers can “understand and control” how their personal data is managed.
Rokita joins the attorneys general of the District of Columbia, Texas and Washington state – all of whom are also filing lawsuits against Google over their handling of location data.
From at least 2014 to the present, Google told consumers they could protect their privacy through customizable settings which would enable them to choose the data Google collects.
However, several states’ investigations later revealed there is “no way” to prevent Google from profiting off of users’ location data.
“Consumers tend to believe the promises that companies make to them,” Rokita said in a Monday press release. “I’m here to hold businesses accountable when they unlawfully betray consumers’ trust.”
