The boys 7th grade Hatchets defeated the South Knox Spartans 62-24 on Monday night in the Washington Jr High Gym. Levi Burkemper led all scores with 27 points followed by Brody Armes 24. The 7-3 Hatchet boys will play again on January 3rd at Loogootee. The 8th Grade Hatchet Boys improved to 9-0 on the season with a 46-27 win on the road at South Knox. Xavion Lesure led the way with 19 points. Cordell Turner had 15. The undefeated 8th grade Hatchets return to action on January 3rd at Loogootee.
Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor was one of the first five NFL players to be named to the Pro Bowl. Taylor led all players in fan voting. Through 14 games, he leads the NFL in rushing yards with over 15 hundred yards, and his 18 total touchdowns leads the league as well. Taylor has scored a rushing touchdown in 11 straight games, the fourth-longest streak in NFL history. The second-year star is the first Colts running back to be named to the Pro Bowl since Joseph Addai in 2007. The rest of the Pro Bowl roster will be unveiled Wednesday at 8 p.m. Eastern.
Purdue defeated Incarnate Word 79-59 Monday night at Mackey Arena. The third-ranked Boilermakers had four players score in double figures, led by Zach Edey’s 13 points. The 7-foot-4 sophomore added nine rebounds and four assists off the bench, as Purdue improved to 11-1. Jaden Ivey and Trevion Williams each scored 12, and Mason Gillis contributed 10 off the bench. Purdue out-rebounded Incarnate Word 47-27. The Boilers fell behind 6-0 before quickly taking control with a 21-4 run. The Cardinals are coached by former Purdue guard Carson Cunningham. The Boilers are off until next Wednesday, when they close out the non-conference schedule at home against Nicholls.
Notre Dame dominated Western Michigan 85-52 Monday night at Joyce Center. Dane Goodwin led the way with 18 points and four 3-pointers, while Paul Atkinson Jr. scored 17. Blake Wesley added 15 points and eight rebounds, and Cormac Ryan contributed 13 off the bench. The Fighting Irish shot 52 percent overall, including 14-for-31 from 3-point range. Notre Dame jumped out to a 10-0 lead, and ended the first half on a 17-2 run to build a 21-point halftime advantage. The Fighting Irish held the Broncos to 36 percent from the field. Notre Dame evened its record at 5-5, and has a quick turnaround. Mike Brey’s squad hosts Texas A&M Corpus Christi Wednesday afternoon.
The Indiana Pacers return to action Tuesday night in Miami against the Heat. Coach Rick Carlisle is back with the team after a 10-day absence due to COVID-19. The Pacers have been off since Thursday, when they beat the league-worst Pistons. Miami will be without All-Stars Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler, while sharpshooter Tyler Herro is questionable. The Pacers expect to get guard Malcolm Brogdon back after he missed Thursday’s win with a sore Achilles. Indiana is 13-18, while the Heat are 18-13, and the teams have split two previous matchups so far this season. The Pacers and Heat get underway at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, with national television coverage on TNT.
