The Vincennes Police Department has surpassed their donation goal to obtain a new Police K9.
The department put out a call to the public several weeks ago after the death of K9 Gary.
Vincennes PD says that last week, the Shriners of Knox County made the generous donation that helped them surpass their goal.
The Vincennes Police Department says they are extremely appreciative and grateful for how the community rallied around the K9 Unit after the sudden loss of K9 Gary.
Sgt. Michael Caswell has been training with the new K9, named Boca. K9 Boca is expected to hit the road with patrol by the end of the year.
The VPD K9 Unit is solely funded by donations and the department says without the support from the community, a new K9 would not have been possible.
They are always accepting donations and any future donations will go towards the upkeep of the K9 program.
