Indiana basketball announced a home-and-home series with Kansas that will begin next season. The Hoosiers will visit Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence next December 17th, and the Jayhawks will return to Bloomington December 16th, 2023. IU and Kansas are two of the most historic college basketball programs in the country. The Hoosiers hold an 8-6 series advantage, including victories in the 1940 and 1953 national championship games. The programs last met in November of 2016, when the 11th ranked Hoosiers took down third-ranked Kansas in Hawaii. The games will be played the same weekend that held the Crossroads Classic. The in-state event will be held for the final time this weekend at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, with Indiana facing Notre Dame and Purdue playing Butler.

Former Indiana quarterback Michael Penix Jr. announced he is transferring to the University of Washington. Penix will reunite with former Hoosiers offensive coordinator Kalen DeBoer, who was recently named the head coach at Washington. The 6-foot-3 Florida native spent the past four seasons with the Hoosiers, and suffered season-ending injuries each year. With DeBoer calling plays in 2019, Penix went 5-1 as a starter and completed nearly 69 percent of his passes before a shoulder injury. Despite playing just six games once again in 2020, he was named a second-team All-Big Ten honoree. DeBoer was the head coach at Fresno State the last two seasons, and he announced Tuesday that former IU offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan will join the Washington staff as the tight ends coach. Sheridan replaced DeBoer as the play caller in 2020, but was fired after this season after the Hoosiers went 2-10.

The Indiana Pacers head on the road Wednesday night to face the defending champion Milwaukee Bucks. The Blue and Gold had a three-game winning streak snapped Monday at home against the Golden State Warriors. The Bucks will be without the reigning NBA Finals MVP. Giannis Antetokounmpo entered the NBA’s COVID-19 health and safety protocols Tuesday and will miss the game. Teammates Wesley Matthews and Donte DiVincenzo were also placed in the protocols and are out Wednesday night. Indiana wrapped up a six-game homestand 3-3, and will once again be without head coach Rick Carlisle, who has missed the last two games in the league’s health and safety protocols. Justin Holiday is questionable to return after missing the last six games due to COVID-19. The Pacers and Bucks get underway at 8 p.m. Eastern.

IndyCar fan favorite James Hinchcliffe announced Tuesday on Twitter that he’s stepping away from full-time competition. Hinch drove for Andretti Autosport last season, and the 35-year-old Canadian has six career wins. In 2015, he suffered life-threatening injuries and blood loss after a practice crash in preparation for the Indianapolis 500. Hinchcliffe returned triumphantly and won pole for the 2016 Indy 500. In his statement, Hinchcliffe insisted he’s not retiring, and said the decision has freed him up to dip his toes into other forms of motorsport and explore other interests and opportunities. He has served as a television analyst, most recently with NBC in 2020.
