Washington’s city employees will get a 3% raise next year…if budgetary ordinances pass on second reading at the next City Council meeting.  Last night the Council heard the introduction of four ordinances setting the city’s budget, pay for city workers, police officers, and firefighters, and a projected tax rate for 2022.   After the meeting, Mayor David Rhoads talked about the projected raise and tax rate.

A rise in the value of the tax base and a required review by the state Office of Local Government and Finance is expected to lower the projected tax rate.
In other business, the Council passed two ordinances on second reading.  The first ordinance raises the fee for requesting a special meeting of the Washington Plan Commission to $300.  The second raises fees for adopting a dog or cat from the Animal Control Center to an amount that covers the expenses of getting the animal ready for adoption.
The Council also set the hours of 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Halloween night as the official times for Trick or Treating in Washington.   And Mayor Rhoads reminded the Council that the first meeting in October would be on Tuesday, October 12, since October 11, is the official Columbus Day holiday.
