WWII veterans honored at IMM

Several WWII veterans were honored on Saturday at the Indiana Military Museum in Vincennes.
Each shared their unique experience of what it was like to serve the U.S. during the most destructive conflict in history.
Leighton Willhite of Rockville was among the group of veterans that attended. Willhite was a tank driver in the Marines during the battle of Iwo Jima in 1945. He was drafted into the service at the age of 17…

Jim Blaze of Indianapolis was another veteran in attendance. Blaze joined the United States Navy at the age of 15 and piloted Higgins boats in the pacific. He was also at the battle of Iwo Jima.
The oldest of the group was James Endicott who will soon turn 100. He gave the final words at Saturday’s event… 

Several other veterans were also present including Richard Kolodey of Kentucky. He was a US Marine Aviation Cadet and served as tail gunner during the war.
Other World War II veterans in attendance were Robert Begaman who served in the Navy, and William Wright of Sullivan who served in the United States Marines.
