The Labor Day Celebration begins today in Gibson County.
The annual event is the oldest continuous festival in the state and the 2nd oldest in the nation.
It dates back to 1886 which was eight years before Labor Day was even a national holiday.
Charlie Wyatt with the Labor Day Association says the festival began when a train full of unionists known as “The Knights of Labor” set out from Chicago to Southern Indiana…
Wyatt says this celebration is all about organized labor…
The event will host a several contests, live music, a beer garden, carnival rides, a car show, a big parade, and much more.
It gets started this evening at the Gibson County Fairgrounds and runs through Monday.
You can hear more about the Labor Day Association tomorrow on Focus on the Community at 8:30 am on Memories 107.9 FM.
